The HLT71 includes an AC power adapter, a car adapter and a Remote Control.
User Ratings and Reviews
1 Star Impossible to get any reception
I bought this TV thinking it might replace an older analog model that could be used in the car, office, garage, outside, etc. The problem is that there is virtually no station that can actually come in on the over air antenna in this TV.
Even hooked up to a supplemental rabbit-ears-type antenna, it was a pixelated mess- going in and out. The only way I could get a picture was to hook directly to cable. Then it worked fine. The picture is not bad… just beware that unless you live across the street from the transmission tower that you will probably not be able to see a picture.
5 Stars Little TV/Monitor a good value
We work in video production and have bought several of these. We’ve found it to be an excellent value for the price. We use it primarily as a video monitor, sending composite video and stereo audio in through the RCA jacks on the side. So far, this has proven to be a reliable, compact, and easy-to-use monitor. The mini-headphone jack serves just fine, and the picture is bright, fully color-saturated, and reasonably crisp. A bit pesky to have to use the remote to switch the image between “normal” and wide-screen, which it doesn’t seem to sense automatically. And, of course, the small speakers are a bit crispy-sounding, but not bad for their limited size. Haven’t used the built-in battery much, so I can’t rate its life yet.
As a television, this model seems to pull in the local channels just fine with the included antenna. There are occasional dropouts, but I think that’s more a function of the digital TV signal. I’m still surprised to get the digital tuner plus the actual television/monitor for not that much more than the digital tuners by themselves. Controls are simple enough that I bought one for my dear mother to use, and she’s not exactly eager to deal with complicated devices.
Again, so far, we’re very satisfied and will probably buy a couple more of these.
1 Star Check ripoffreports.com before buying Haier products
I bought this product for $129.99 in Feb, 09, screen went black in July 09. It was not the cheapest 7″ TV and had decent customer reviews. But I should have checked deeper, like at [...]. Haier has awful customer service! Muliple phone calls to customer no-service and the standard reply was “sorry, it has a 90 day warranty!” So I paid $130 bucks to get 5 months use. I will never buy a Haier product again. I will spend my money with companies that stand behind their products.

4 Stars Nice little set with above average picture quality
I Picked up the Digital Prism ATSC-710 from CVS for the same price here on The ‘Zon. The ATSC-710 is the exact same unit as this Haier, but with a different logo on the front and a different box. That’s it, and I couldn’t be happier.
Unlike many of the delusional “reviewers”, I fully realized I wasn’t going to get great reception with the little monopole antenna. The law of physics dictates this. You can try all the portable TVs you want and if the antenna isn’t good, you’re not going to be getting hundreds of OTA digital channels. Also keep in mind, that contrary to popular belief, ATSC digital doesn’t do as well as it’s analog grandfathers in the reception department. Whereas you could still see somewhat of a picture(albeit with tons of “fuzz”), with a weak analog signal, digital is either there or it isn’t. There’s no “gray area”
That being said, I was able to pickup about 7 OTA stations with the crappy telescoping antenna, in my house. I am about 13 miles from the nearest transmitter, so me being able to pick these up, is pretty surprising. There are times I get the digital “freeze” but for using this little antenna I’m pretty amazed. It does even better when tested in my back yard.
Picture quality is pretty good as well. Not award winning, but above average for this price range. I found someone who hooked a signal generator up to theirs and calibrated it using the following settings:
“Set Color Mode (2nd item in 4th menu) to Warm. This is the closest to D65.
Select Personal picture settings from the Menu.
Set Contrast to 25. This allows proper reproduction of all video levels to 100% without clipping or serious compression. At a setting of 30, levels above 98% are compressed, but it is still tolerable. Higher settings produce severe clipping.
Leave Brightness at the default setting of 50. It is correct and black level is stable with changing video levels.
Set Sharpness at 30. The default setting of 50 produces moderate outlining of vertical lines.
Leave Tint at the default setting of 0. It is correct.
Set Color at 30. Higher settings are incorrect, but many people like higher color levels.
These settings reduce the overall light output, but totally eliminate clipped whites, pasty faces with blown out highlights, and many other problems that will be observed in Standard, Dynamic, and Soft picture modes.”
The composite (red, white and yellow) input works great and is definitely a selling point.
Sound quality is ok and quite honestly, not super loud. But it’s more than acceptable if you’re not in a loud location. A headphone jack is present if louder audio is needed.
Battery life is around 2.5hrs, which is about normal for this level of set.
The only reasons I didn’t give this set 5 stars are definitely not deal-breaking, but worth noting, nonetheless. 1.) The remote layout is pretty silly. The volume keys are horizontal on the bottom and the channel buttons are along the left, blended in with a couple more buttons. This is typical, however for Chinese-made electronics, so I’m quite used to it. 2.) I would like to see longer battery life, but it looks as if they crammed electronics in every inch of the case, so I’m not quite sure it would be possible to cram a larger battery in.
For those that demand physics breaking performance, this is a great little set. You’d be hard pressed to find anything better for the prise (and quite possibly twice the price).
1 Star Doesn’t work in our area.
While this appears to be a good little TV, getting a signal into it is a problem. We live in a rural area and our signal is marginal. While we did fairly well with the analog signal we received, the digital signal is lacking in power. We have several larger TV sets and they do a much better job of picking up and displaying the signal we receive. This TV will not pick up any signal with the whip antenna that is supplied with the unit. It may work well in an urban setting, but here in the rural West it is a dud.
